If you're like many people, you may not have a clear answer to that question. Just as family doctors recommend annual physicals to determine your overall health, ophthalmologists often recommend a yearly eye exam to specifically analyze eye health and to maintain good vision.
You will be given a comprehensive eye exam by our board-certified ophthalmologist Dr. L. Shawn Wong, M.D., who will measure your vision conditions (nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism, and presbyopia). Also, he'll examine both the front and interior of the eyes to check for medical conditions (such as cataracts, keratoconus, etc.) and any eye diseases (such as glaucoma). A variety of prescription medications and some systemic diseases -- like diabetes and multiple sclerosis -- can affect vision, sometimes quite subtly over a period of months or years. So, if you or your family members have a history of eye or systemic diseases, keeping up with regular eye exams is especially important.
Even if you've been able to eliminate the use of your glasses or contact lenses with vision correction procedures (such as LASIK, Lens Vision Correction, or Cataract Surgery), a yearly comprehensive eye exam will help to continue your great vision and watch for any medical situations.
Many medical health insurances cover complete eye exams with an ophthalmologist. If you would like to schedule a comprehensive eye exam with Dr. L. Shawn Wong, M.D., please contact us at 512-345-5030 or submit the form below.
